James Taylor

James was the son of James Taylor, a Freeman of Llantrisant. who was born in the town in 1860.

His sister, Annie, married Edward Morgan, landlord of the Wheatsheaf Hotel.

James worked as a Superintendent Assurance and later china dealer in Cardiff. He lived at 100 Woodville Road – later 28 Malefant Street - with his wife Jane and their children Martha, Emily and Maelgwyn.

He won a by-election to Cardiff City Council for Cathays in 6 December 1904. 

From 1920 to 1921 he served as Lord Mayor of Cardiff and a made a special visit to Llantrisant for a Civic Reception at the Guildhall on 24 May 1921 where he was enrolled as a Freeman of the town.
