Following investigation by Llantrisant Town Trust, working with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Environmental Health Department and Natural Resources Wales we can confirm several cases of sickness amongst dogs who have visited the Common recently which may be due to Alabama Rot.
Alabama Rot is a potentially fatal disease which damages dogs’ blood vessels. This can cause skin sores and sometimes goes on to cause kidney failure.
We have been informed that one dog - which walked the Common - was affected by Alabama Rot and has passed away.
We strongly advise that dog owners refrain from walking their animals on Llantrisant Common at this present time.

The condition is not believed to be harmful to the grazing animals on Llantrisant Common.
